Research Request Guidelines

The Vermillion County Public Library will do research for you at the library. All fees collected are use to maintain and improve our Genealogy Department  Please use the research outline below to ensure a prompt and accurate reply. You can contact us via mail at the address above, or you can email genealogy@newportlibrary.info, to request research.  Genealogy research is done on a “as time permits” basis so please be patient.

 The fee for a name search is $5.00 per name; there will be a charge of $0.25 each for photocopies of information in the library.  There is a fee of $7.50 each for uncertified birth or death record or $10.00 if the record is certified. Fee for marriage record is $5.00. If only records are requested, the search fee may be waived. Other charges may apply for official document copying, court house visits and mailing.   More detailed information about research is available by email if you are unsure about fees.

Please Use the Following Outline as a Guide as to What to Include in Your Request!

  1. Name of Person: List the first, middle, and last name of the person you are requesting information about.
  2. Place of Residence:  List the town, township, and county where person resided
  3. Time Frame: List of dates relating to your request.
  4. Information needed: Indicate Birth, Marriage, Wills, Death or other information.  Please be as specific as possible about the information you need.
  5. Your information… REQUIRED  Include your name, address, city, state, zip code and email address
